Data format and FITS headers

It was decided that the best way toward a system with proper data format and FITS headers is to make a post-processing system that takes the data as provided by the BIAS detector control programs and converts it to proper (Multiple Extension FITS) files with adequate and uniform headers. The main advantage is that this will require little change in the BIAS program itself, which can mostly be done in-house.

As a pilot study, a program was developed to convert the data for MOSCA to a MEF file, with separate extensions for each CCD. In the same conversion process all existing headers are reformatted into the format that is recommended by the FITS-standard, and several useful FITS headers are added.
