Safety

With the extension of the sea level office the location of the exit signs and fire extinguishers have been changed and the map showing evacuation routes and the location of the fire extinguishers and the instructions in case of emergency were updated.

With the accident of Markku Verkkoniemi when driving up to the observatory we have extensively reviewed our procedures. The car itself was well maintained, having all its tires and one of the sets of brakes replaced recently. In general, we also couldn't identify any specific action that might have avoided the accident, but it should have been realized earlier that he was missing. Some discussions have already been going on with the TNG and ING to see if the situation can be improve such that nobody can go missing when going up or down the mountain or when being on the mountain. Also, in the next CCI Observatory Sub-Commission meeting general safety aspects will be discussed.
