Norse giants take to the skies
The following message was received from Tommy Grav (Institute of
Astrophysics, UiO; and Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics).
In honor of the contributions of the Nordic Optical Telescope in
tracking the 12 irregular satellites of Saturn discovered in 2000, IAU
have approved of naming five of these moons after Norse giants and a
giantess/goddess. The five names are Ymir (the first ice giant),
Suttung, Mundilfari, Thrym and Skadi (for which
Scandinavia is named).
