Timing accuracy
The accuracy of the timing given in the FITS header of ALFOSC data has been measured
during two timing assessment campaigns organized by the International Asteroid Warning
Network (IAWN) consisting of observing near-Earth asteroids at close fly-by.
The result from both campaigns gives that the ALFOSC timings are delayed
by 0.4 seconds.
This is believed to be due to the ALFOSC shutter.
During 2021 November 9-11 2019 XS
was observed with ALFOSC, as well as other 66 observatories, at a maximum
differential tracking rate of 3.8" per second. The final results are published in
Farnocchia et
al. 2022, and the specific ALFOSC/NOT results are
Z23_IAWN_2019XS_results.
During 2022 November 23-24 2005 LW3
was measured when approaching Earth at 2.97 lunar distances at a maximum differential
tracking rate of 2.4" per second. Final analysis and a publication is pending.
