Announcement on leadership of Nordic Optical Telescope

Due to a difficult financial situation, the Board of the Nordic Optical Telescope decided in its meeting in May 2024 that it is not anymore financially possible to have a full-time director of the Nordic Optical Telescope on La Palma. Therefore, the local director of the Nordic Optical Telescope stopped working for the NOT on May 15th 2024. We thank him for everything he has done for the Nordic Optical Telescope over the years.

In the future the Nordic Optical Telescope will instead have a part-time director in the Nordic Countries. In June Petri Väisänen, director of the Finnish Centre of Astronomy with ESO, was appointed as an interim part-time director of the Nordic Optical Telescope.
