A first version of an interactive interface for automated reduction of echelle data is available at the observatory. The software, written in Python, wraps around standard IRAF routines with parameters that are adapted specifically for FIES data. The core of the software is object-oriented, which means it is very easy to add reduction steps or provide additional functionality. The reduction routines are modular, allowing easy modification and improvement of the individual routines.
The current version of the interface is able to automatically reduce FIES data in several different formats, such as windowed, binned or interlaced spectra. Future steps include testing of the interface under realistic conditions, fine-tuning and improvement of the reduction routines and documenting the software.
