A solar experiment was set-up to measure solar oscillations using FIES by observing the blue sky with a bare fibre. On the outside of the FIES building a small box was installed which contains an iodine cell in front of an optical fibre. The fibre goes through the wall in to the FIES building and can be connected to the instrument.
The experiment will provide input to feasibility studies of the SONG network by establishing a partial prototype of a key part of the SONG instrument. In particular, it will give us experience with the analysis of iodine-stabilised data. Furthermore, this experiment will provide an indication of whether an iodine cell should be installed permanently as a front-end to FIES.
